During this short workshop you will learn the fundamentals of flax weaving. We will first cut flax leaves from the Mahoe Hills garden. You will then learn how to prepare the fax before weaving which includes boiling and dyeing the leaves. One of the advantages of boiling the flax is less final shrinkage. Your flax flowers will bloom for a very long time!
We will make three different kinds of flowers using basic techniques. At the end of the course you will be able to create a variety of flowers, limited only by your imagination. The workshop itself is 3.5 hours and we will have a half hour lunch break and a light healthy lunch is included in the course fee as well as coffee and tea.
Your tutor, Leah Wald, is a practicing artist and crafter who has been working with flax in traditional and non traditional ways for the last 10 years. Leah graduated from NMIT in 2012 and has been exhibiting in New Zealand and selling her craft personally and online. http://leahwald.tumblr.com/
